CHS Hockey Camp Aalborg 2-6 Aug 2021

07.08.2021

Finally we were up for some hockey again, it's already three weeks since Stenungsund. This time we would train with College Hockey Showcases (CHS) in the fantastic arena Gigantum in Aalborg, Denmark. The camp started on Monday Aug 2 and we are heading back Sat 7 Aug.

Meeting Gigantum

Gigantum is a huge arena in Aalborg, with two ice rinks, a big handball hall, a big swim area with waterslides and many pools, cafeteria and a lot more.

On camp

The camp was led by Sam Cheema and his guys from  https://www.cheemahockey.com We were really surprised when we understood that Sam actually had played against our coach Blaho Novak in  NIHL in UK, and knew a lot about him.

It is a lot easier for us to understand American language than Danish.  Since the Danes neither understood us, we switched to English also in the dressing room, and everyone was happy.

Every day started with off-ice, then 90 min(!) on ice, off-ice and another 90 min on ice. Big focus on power skating which we are used to with our coaches. One negative thing was that we felt that there were to many break-ups in the drills, and when we finally got it, we started on a new drill. But . definitely a very good week, new friends and a lot of hours on ice.

Outside the rink

Aalborg is a beautiful old Danish City. We visited the Zoo and had a good time there.  Just outside Strandparken Family camping there is a beautiful and exciting sea pool where they have built a climbing park in the water! We lived in a cabin this time, and besides a really good meal at Sushi Sushi we made our own food on the BBQ or in our kitchen. The Sushi Sushi people did a big mistake when they had half price on "all you can eat" for kids :-)

Now we have packed the car, and will leave Denmark for Gothenburg Sweden on a ferry in 4 hrs. Then it is back home, repacking and ready for a new week "at work" with Storhamar Dragons. Oliver, sadly...has to go into three days of quaranteene.
